Nestlé have announced a new initiative to support development - the Nestlé Prize in Creating Shared Value.

Worth up to 500,000 Swiss Francs (approx. £300,000) the prize is for NGOs, individuals or businesses that have shown innovation in one of three areas: improving water management or access; improving the lives of farmers and rural communities; or delivering high nutritional value to populations with nutritional deficits.

The prize is part of Nestlé's commitment to recognise excellent community work and support the development or expansion of a project that could be applied on a wider scale and make a real difference on the ground.

Applications close on October 31st 2009 with the prize awarded in 2010.
