Heathrow has released the latest in its series of briefings 'Towards a sustainable Heathrow'.

London 18/07/12

This new issue provides ‘a focus on Safety’. Visit here to access the new briefing.

Heathrow is like a small city. More than 320 companies operate within the airport boundary, employing around 76,500 people, and over 69 million passengers travel through each year. Ensuring the safety of all these people is complex, but is of paramount importance.

‘A focus on safety’ provides an insight into how we manage health and safety of our people and passengers throughout our terminals, airfield and construction sites. Highlights include :

  • How we manage health and safety at Heathrow to ensure we have safe people, safe places and safe processes.
  • That the lost time injury rate for Heathrow employees has fallen steadily since 2008, thanks to absence management teams and support to help employees return to work.
  • Safety promotion such as “Heathrow Safe. And Proud of it” campaign helps guide Heathrow’s safety performance through providing leadership and creating a positive culture.
  • How we’ve reduced passenger accidents through undertaking more maintenance work ‘out of hours’ and reducing slips, trips and falls through agreements with cleaning companies

As the UK's only hub airport, Heathrow has committed to delivering a sustainable airport: enhancing the economic impact that it provides, while minimising the negative impacts of airport operations on local communities and the environment.

Heathrow's series of sustainability briefings 'Towards a Sustainable Heathrow' provide regular insights into how Heathrow works with airport companies and other partners to manage sustainability performance.

Other briefings in the series include a focus on climate change, air quality, noise, waste employment, training & skills and the economy.

Towards a Sustainable Heathrow briefings are available at the website
