The Country Briefing for the next issue will review the overall picture of corporate responsibility in Turkey. There will be an overview of the history of CR in Turkey and how it differs from other countries.

There will be a review of the big CR issues in Turkey. The briefing will include case studies of enterprising companies that are leading the way in responsible business. Plus there will be an analysis of NGO and corporate viewpoints as well as the influence of Turkey’s government and its policies on sustainable business.

The Strategy & Management section features, director of the Doughty Centre for Corporate Responsibility at Cranfield School of Management David Grayson’s latest essay. The in-depth article analyses some of the best recent examples that make the business case for operating with sustainability and ethics.

Also in Strategy & Management is a focus on the controversial area of tax. The feature will examine how a responsible company should approach tax assessment, when tax efficiency is correct and proper and the right balance to strike. Throughout the article there will be examples from companies of both good and bad practice.

This issue's 12-page special briefing will look the public relations industry. The first chapter considers how PR companies approach corporate sustainability and ethics in their clients’ impact assessments. It asks what the role of a PR company should be in terms of leveraging better practice – do they do this? Can they? It then looks at the relationship between PR companies and campaigning NGOs and presents the viewpoints of both.

Next the briefing reviews the effect of CR-related reputational issues on both the client and PR company. It analyses the effect of new mediums, such as social media, has had on promoting positive messages as well as countering negative publicity.

The third part of the management briefing considers the viewpoint of PR industry bodies. It initially asks who the PR industry bodies are and analyses their roles. It then provides viewpoints from the bodies, plus industry watchers with regards to campaigning NGOs. Finally it presents the viewpoints of activist/campaigning NGOs with regards to the PR industry.

Our EthicsWatch section will firstly focus on the Kimberley Process and whether it is in trouble. It looks at what should be in place before Zimbabwean diamonds can be brought back onto the market legitimately and what all participants need to do to get the Kimberley Process back on track.

Next it delves into the recent success for Lego following Greenpeace’s campaign regarding packaging sourcing. Greenpeace asserted that Lego was sourcing materials for packaging from Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) but, in contrast to other companies, Lego has taken the opportunity to engage with Greenpeace and work to eliminate unsustainable and destructive materials from packaging.

The third section reviews the new report from UKSIF, the UK’s sustainable investment and finance association, that calls on the financial sector to take on environmental, social and corporate governance factors and build a more sustainable and resilient economy. The report argues that sustainable finance is the only way to properly build a future economy, but is the UK is well placed to take the lead?

Finally there will be analysis of the recent US mandate to remove old oil installations in the Gulf of Mexico which in turn would remove the world’s largest collection of marine artificial habitats. Some have noted the removal could violate eco-protection laws. The piece considers the balance to be struck between removal of waste on one hand and the (inadvertent) benefits this could bring on the other.

The corporate responsibility report Review section will look at Toshiba and Puma.

The September issue’s CEO focus will be on Kraft Europe’s CEO Nick Bunker.
