Nissan has made Alan Buddendeck vice-president for global communications, global brand communications and corporate social responsibility. Buddendeck was promoted following Simon Sproule’s move to Microsoft earlier this year.

Carsten Schirmeisen has joined Holcim, the Swiss supplier of cement and aggregates, as senior manager of the carbon business. Schirmeisen will implement the company’s central carbon trading activities. He previously led ABN Amro’s environmental and social risk management team.

Anne Simpson has begun her new role as senior portfolio manager for corporate governance at the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, the state pension fund. Simpson was formerly executive director of the International Corporate Governance Network, the investor membership group. Her role there has been taken by Carl Rosén (see interview).

Steve John has left his role of corporate affairs director at PepsiCo UK & Ireland to become director of group corporate affairs at Bupa.

Grameen Foundation, the supporter of microfinance with close links to Grameen Bank, has appointed Peter Bladin as executive vice-president for programmes and regions, Jennifer Meehan as regional chief executive for Asia, and Camilla Nestor as vice-president for microfinance.

The Ethical Tea Partnership, the global alliance for the responsible sourcing of tea, has appointed Sarah Roberts as its new executive director.

Carlson Wagonlit Travel, the business travel company, has promoted Sandy Moring to head its sustainability strategy in the UK and Ireland. Moring is currently senior director, public sector, at the company.

The UK government has reappointed Stewart Davies as commissioner for business, sitting on the Sustainable Development Commission, a watchdog on sustainability policy. Davies, who will serve as a commissioner for a second three-year term, is also managing director of Serco Integrated Services, a supplier to UK local governments.

British Waterways and Transport for London have jointly appointed Kim Milnes as sustainable transport manager at the waterways authority.

V3 Companies, a US ecological consultancy, has made Laura Shafer sustainability services leader.
