Ethical Corporation’s April 2012 issue features in-depth analysis of how companies are trying to change consumer behaviour for the better, an interview with O2’s CEO Ronan Dunne, 10-page briefings on renewable energy and on responsible business in India and more.

London 21/03/12

Ethical Corporation, the leading global business intelligence provider, has released details of the stories covered in the April 2012 edition of Ethical Corporation magazine.

Next month there’ll be a 10-page management briefing that delves into the role of different power options in the future energy mix.

Firstly the briefing will reflect on the current energy supply in general and then focus on how foreign affairs, such as issues in the Middle East, affect the prices of oil, coal, gas, nuclear and renewables.

The briefing then reviews the role of nuclear energy post-Fukushima. It considers why the UK and USA are ploughing ahead with their respective nuclear programmes, whilst France and Germany is phasing out their nuclear programmes.

Next the briefing analyses the different approaches regions around the world take to sourcing their energy. In analysing the different approaches the briefing will provide an outlook for the cross over point at which renewables become more competitive than fossil fuels.

Finally, the briefing tackles micro-generation. WWF, Greenpeace, BZE, Tesco and many others are pushing for a transition from a centralised to a decentralised grid. What are the key drivers of this trend? And what progress will a decentralised grid have made in 20 years’ time?

Next month’s Strategic and Management section feature is on measuring behaviour change. The in-depth article looks at how companies and brands can change the behaviour of consumers for the better.

It will highlight when this has worked and when this hasn’t, plus the pitfalls to avoid. There will be case studies of best practice from the likes of Unilever, Anglian Water ‘sLove Every Drop’ and Ariel’sTurn to 30’.

The Strategy and Management CEO focus will be on O2’s CEO Ronan Dunne.

The issue’s 10-page country briefing reviews the current state of CSR in India.

It will start by outlining the history of CSR in India and how it differs from elsewhere. It then analyses the key sustainable business issues with case studies of the leading Indian companies.

The briefing will consider the role of NGOs and civil society and which voluntary initiatives are most relevant.

Finally, the briefing will examine government’s influence on sustainable business, how this affects corporate responsibility and whether companies or government are more progressive.

The first EthicsWatch section consists of analysis of Global Compact and whether there is an improved, clear strategy from its leadership in the light of its apparent robust attitude to member non-compliance.

The second section looks at the growing tensions over energy labelling between the EU and other economies. How far will EU institutions look to use policy tools to encourage progress?

Next there will be analysis how activists are using the upcoming London Olympics to get at big brands. There will be analysis of whether sweatshop labour has been used for Olympic branded and related goods. There will also be a review of the recent resignation of an Olympic Official in light of Dow Chemical’s sponsorship.

The final section of EthicsWatch reviews how the Canadian government is taking a hard line with groups opposing the Northern Gateway pipeline for oil sands. The article looks at why this is so important for the Canadian Government and why the activist groups are so upset.

The Review section will include reviews of the latest sustainability reports from Accor and Coca-Cola.

As always there’ll be the usual academic news, book reviews and of course there are contributions from regular columnists; Mallen Baker, Paul French and Peter Knight.
