Cultivating the next generation of Sustainability Professionals is no small feat, as the teams at Arizona State University ("ASU"), Global Institute of Sustainability, and Manzimvula Ventures, Inc., both know

Phoenix, Arizona - March 5th, 2014

Over the past year a dedicated team comprised of practitioners, academia, researchers and corporate executives have been working to create a unique program that takes four concept and knowledge threads and binds them together through industry thought leader interaction, direct instruction, peer and experiential learning, and direct application, to deliver the new sustainability leaders of tomorrow.

Leaders with the thinking we will need, to create real change and facilitate a shift in the global mindset from a bottom-line and ostensibly singular and destructive focus, to a focus on the future and a legacy of inclusion that encompasses and embraces human, environmental, social and financial resources to create longevity, resilient environments and intra-dependent and mutual support for all living things, by seeing the world through a broader systemic group of lenses to see outcomes differently.

Differently, in that the systems themselves as well as the links and inter-systemic effects become more visible, better understood, and most importantly, that they are accepted as being vital and necessary contributors or detractors to the outcomes we have already created and experienced, and the outcomes we will create and experience in the future.

Participants in the program begin to understand outcomes as the complexity of the flow of a series of repeating events and their associated environments and circumstances, rather seeing outcomes as events that are stand alone or a singularity.

The ASU Executive Masters for Sustainability Leadership ("EMSL") degree program targets corporate, governmental and organizational leadership to build on the Executives’ own skills, to create a view of the world around themselves, as well as globally, that is broader and more significant than what they have experienced and been open to in the past. The threads in the program, Global Context, Strategy, Communications and Leadership are intertwined and weaved together to challenge the executives thinking, mindset and perception of the economic engine and circumstance, within which they operate. Understanding how to use that knowledge and learning to lead and facilitate change through transparent and perceptive communication, dedicated action, and collaborative relationships, both internal and external to their operating environments.

"It has been an honour, and frankly an exceptional experience, to be a part of the team that developed and launched the EMSL program at ASU. It is my opinion, that we do not have any time left to wait, the time for sustainability to become the core driver of community, business and government is now, and the EMSL program is delivering the leaders we need", said Warren Te Brugge, CEO and Founder of Manzimvula.
