Job Description:

Acre has been engaged by The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh ("Accord") to hire a highly accomplished and experienced Training Coordinator to lead a large, high profile workplace programme.

The Accord is an independent agreement designed to make all garment factories in Bangladesh safe workplaces. It is a legally binding agreement between:

  • International trade unions IndustriALL and UNI Global

  • Eight Bangladeshi trade unions

  • Over 210 international brands and retailers

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) acts as the Accord Steering Committee chair and four NGOs have witnessed this agreement.

Based in Dhaka, the Training Coordinator will work closely with the Chief Safety Inspector and Executive Director. It will be the Training Coordinator's responsibility to train staff as well as develop and deliver a comprehensive building, fire, and workplace safety programme. You will support joint operational, safety and health (OSH) committees at Accord listed factories and be accountable for training factory level labour-management safety committee members and other employees on the application of and compliance with the Accord safety and health provisions. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the training staff are fully competent in delivering the four core components of the Accord workplace programme.

This senior position requires an individual with substantial work experience. Responsible for leading this complex programme, they will be culturally and socially sensitive ideally with knowledge of human and labour rights.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field

  • Demonstrated knowledge and capacity in workplace programmes

  • Proven track record of designing and delivering complex workplace programmes

  • Experience of hiring and training a team and building capacity

  • Practical experience of working with trade unions and employers in an industrial relations context

  • Experience of mediation and dispute resolution

  • Computer savvy with exceptional communications abilities
