Acre has been engaged by Aegon to recruit a Sustainability Strategy Manager to design and facilitate a step change in the company's global sustainability agenda and programmes. This is an exciting chance to build on Aegon's existing track record and commitment to sustainability.

This is an opportunity to innovate and ensure that the company meets its sustainability goals and targets; to embed sustainability into Aegon's overall corporate strategy and its day-to-day business practices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing stakeholder engagement, community investment and charitable donations, employee engagement and volunteering, data collection and reporting

  • Working closely with Aegon's Management Committee in developing and implementing Aegon's global sustainability strategy

  • Providing knowledge, expertise and support on sustainability issues to senior management and at Aegon's operating units around the world

  • Working with other departments and subject matter experts including sustainable procurement, diversity & non-discrimination, environmental, health & safety, responsible tax, responsible investment, human rights, compliance with standards of market conduct and communications

  • Managing and mentoring a sustainability team ensuring a high degree of personal accountability

  • Regular updating of key sustainability policies and guidelines

  • Building on Aegon's position as a leader in integrated reporting and ensuring the company meets its international commitments with respect to the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance, the OECD, the Global Reporting Initiative, and the International Integrated Reporting Council

  • Representing Aegon at sustainability conferences, workshops, roundtables, seminars and other industry events, and ensuring effective reporting to outside rating agencies

Experience sought:

  • A track record in the development and implementation of sustainability programmes closely related to corporate strategies across business units and geographies

  • Commercially astute, adept at identifying material risks and opportunities associated with a company's sustainability programme and activities in order to make a positive contribution to overall corporate strategy

  • A solid understanding of global sustainability trends and issues with an interest in how they affect the financial services sector

  • Highly effective communication skills including the ability to persuade and influence at all levels of an organization, including Board level

  • Must be effective when working with external stakeholders such as NGOs, governments and regulators

  • Coaching and developing team members
