Founded in 2003, FLOCERT is the global certifier for Fairtrade International. Among many areas of operation, we mainly offer certification, verification, climate, information and impact services from crop to shelf. Our key customers are disadvantaged producers, such as mid-sized agricultural organizations, peasants and farm-workers, in developing and emerging countries. In the northern hemisphere, we advise and support traders and manufacturers on their comprehensive purchasing activities and complex value supply chain management.

FLOCERT is currently looking for:

Supervisory Board Members (m/f)
Start date: June 2016

1. Composition

The Supervisory Board of FLO-CERT consists of at least five members. These members are drawn of different stakeholder groups and experts who contribute through their involvement to the success of FLO-CERT.

2. Accountability

The Supervisory Board is accountable to Fairtrade International as the shareholder of FLO-CERT.

3. Appointment

The members of the Supervisory Board are appointed by the shareholder for a period of three years. The term can be extended for an additional period of up to three years.

4. Frequency of meetings

The Supervisory Board meets at least once a year in the main offices of FLO-CERT in Bonn, Germany.

5. Main function and responsibilities

The Supervisory Board supports and supervises FLO-CERT’s Managing Director who is ultimately responsible for all operational decisions of FLO-CERT GmbH. The responsibilities of the Supervisory Board include the decision on:

  • Declaration of the annual financial statements of the company

  • Appointment and withdrawal of the managing director(s)

  • Pass a resolution regarding the rules of procedure of the company, as well as their amendment

  • Pass a resolution about which type of business activity shall require the additional approval of the General Meeting

6. Qualifications

FLO-CERT Supervisory Board Members bring additional legitimacy to the organization by virtue of their previous professional stature, history and accomplishments. Supervisory Board Members bring specific functional expertise and contacts required by the organization for its growth and development. Supervisory Board members are expected to participate actively in the organization’s development.

Applicants for the positions should have:

a. Excellent communication skills in English

b. Board level experience in one or more of these areas:

  • Agricultural production, in particular Fairtrade

  • International trade and marketing

  • International certification, in particular social certification

  • Financial consulting/financial service industry
