POSITION OVERVIEW

The overall objective of the position is to grow BSR’s consulting projects and  activities in support of BSR members’ needs and the BSR mission of creating a just and sustainable world, with a particular focus on the technology and manufacturing sectors in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

The Technology and Manufacturing Manager will play a key role in strengthening and deepening relationships with current BSR members from the technology (i.e. internet, telecoms, consumer electronics, etc.) and heavy manufacturing (i.e. automotive, aerospace, chemicals, diversified industrials, etc.) sectors in EMEA, as well as recruit and service new members in these industries.

Further, the Technology and Manufacturing Manager will lead efforts to build a robust consulting project portfolio. The position will be based either in our Paris or Copenhagen offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Member services: The Technology and Manufacturing Manager will work with BSR members on an individual and collective basis to ensure that the membership value proposition is met. This requires close cooperation with other BSR departments, industry practices, and regions across the world.

  • Business development: The Technology and Manufacturing Manager will represent BSR to the corporate sector and other key stakeholders in the technology and manufacturing industries. The Technology and Manufacturing Manager will assume responsibility for implementation of BSR’s local strategy and account relationship management for identified members, as well as develop business opportunities with other companies.

  • Project implementation: The Technology and Manufacturing Manager will assume responsibility for managing projects with members and non-members, as well as set and facilitate critical collaborative initiatives. The Technology and Manufacturing Manager should expect to allocate around 60 percent of her/his time to project implementation, including up to 30 percent travel time.

  • External representation: The Technology and Manufacturing Manager will represent BSR to an external audience by: meeting with key industry stakeholders, attending and presenting at industry conferences, and writing occasional publications.

The ideal candidate thrives in an international, entrepreneurial environment, and is able to plan, execute, and continuously improve his or her work both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues.

The candidate must be able to engage with high-level representatives from the world’s leading companies with experience and authority on the many aspects of the sustainability agenda.

As an experienced business development manager, the candidate will be expected to drive, encourage, and motivate other colleagues and his or herself. He or she will have demonstrated excellence in business development and project management within a sustainability context, either from within a corporation or in a consulting position.

Specific expectations:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, international development, sustainability/CSR, or other relevant discipline.

  • Subject matter expertise in one or more of BSR’ s service offerings, such as supply chain, human rights, social performance, sustainability strategy, economic development, climate change, or stakeholder engagement, with a preference for human rights and supply chain expertise.

  • Minimum seven years of relevant professional experience from either a consulting firm and/or industry, such as positions in a CSR/sustainability department, corporate affairs, or business development.

  • Appetite and expertise for technology and manufacturing sectors, gained at a company or relevant organization.

  • Proven and demonstrable track record of success in working with business in a client-facing position.

  • Experience managing multiple, disparate projects simultaneously.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills for high-level interaction with members and other companies.

  • Strong analytical, presentation, and facilitation skills.

  • Demonstrated initiative and dedication in work experience.

  • Ability to undertake business travel up to 30 percent of the time, across Europe and non-OECD environments.

  • Previous International work or living experience highly preferred.

  • High degree of fluency in English, with fluency in a second language considered a plus, especially French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese or Arabic.

  • High ethical standards and commitment to BSR’s core values of leadership, respect, and integrity.

  • EU work authorization compulsory (BSR will not sponsor visa applications for candidates applying for this position and will assume candidate is authorized to work based in Paris or Copenhagen).
