We are proud to have a team of some of the industry’s most talented and motivated people working on sustainability in our global offices in Copenhagen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, New York, Paris, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

POSITION OVERVIEW

BSR is seeking an experienced Manager for its healthcare practice in New York. The position is full-time.

The Manager will lead BSR’s efforts to work with corporate members in the healthcare sector throughout the United States.  The practice includes members in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device sectors, among others.  As health and wellness are increasingly areas of focus, the Manager may be expected to work cross-sector in food, beverage, & agriculture; consumer packaged goods, manufacturing, and other industries.

The Manager will drive business development activities and project execution for the sector’s consulting and membership activities in the US.

Consulting projects and membership engagement activities are specifically scoped to drive BSR’s mission to create a more just and sustainable world.

As such, projects typically cut across three major themes:

  1. Access to healthcare and global health including inclusive business models, innovative financing, and access metrics

  2. Sustainability strategy and implementation including sustainability integration, human rights, stakeholder and investor engagement, supply chain, and climate change; and

  3. The intersection between health and sustainability across industry sectors.

Most projects are several months long and tailored for an individual client’s needs and objectives.  There are also multi-company, multi-year collaborations wherein the Manager will contribute to overarching strategy, direction and company engagement to these important long-standing initiatives. Some examples of these collaborations include the Healthy Business Coalition and the Healthcare Working Group.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Based in BSR’s New York office, the Manager will play a key role in strengthening and deepening relationships with current BSR members operating across the United States as well as recruiting and servicing new members, and conceiving and delivering projects for companies. The Manager will be primarily focused on working with companies in the healthcare space, but will also be expected to interact with companies in other sectors depending on BSR’s needs.

  • Member services: The Manager will work with BSR members on an individual and collective basis to ensure that the membership value proposition is met. This requires close cooperation with other BSR departments, areas of expertise and regions across the world. Typical member services activities include quarterly and annual member meetings, short-answer research, and on-demand advisory support.

  • Business development: The Manager will represent BSR to member companies and other key stakeholders in the healthcare sector, including health & wellness coalitions, global health foundations and advocates, implementation partners, and socially responsible investors. The Manager will assume responsibility for implementation of the global industry strategy across the United States, identifying opportunities for private sector- and grant-funded work, developing concepts, and finalizing project proposals. Frequent, senior-level engagement with members is required to support business development activities.

  • Project implementation: The Manager will assume responsibility for designing and implementing advisory services projects with members and non-members. The role includes budgeting and forecasting, people management, industry expertise, and presentation and facilitation skills.  The Manager should expect to allocate up to 70% of her/his time to project implementation.

  • Collaborative action: The Manager will support collaborative action initiatives in the US and globally, helping to drive innovative approaches to creating business and social value for participating companies.

  • External representation: The Manager will represent BSR to an external audience by meeting with key industry stakeholders; attending and presenting at industry conferences; and writing accessible, research-driven thought leadership pieces including short blogs and longer articles.
