POSITION OVERVIEW

BSR’s Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) is a global business network working towards the vision of a maritime industry free of corruption that enables fair trade to the benefit of society at large. BSR is the secretariat of MACN. MACN and its members promote good corporate practice in the maritime industry for tackling bribes, facilitation payments, and other forms of corruption. MACN collaborates with key stakeholders, including governments and international organizations, such as the United Nations Development Programme, to identify and mitigate the root causes of corruption in the maritime industry. To meet this objective, MACN implements collective action projects in developing countries that address both the supply and demand side of bribes and facilitation payments.

The MACN Collective Action Lead operates as an integral part of the global MACN program team. The Collective Action Lead will be primarily responsible for developing, managing, and scaling MACN’s collective action projects in an effective and cost-efficient way to promote trade and transparency and to drive private sector leadership on combating corruption and bribery in the port and maritime sector in developing countries.

The Collective Action Lead reports to the MACN Program Director (based in Europe).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Further develop the MACN collective action methodology and toolbox for implementing MACN’s collective action projects in developing countries

  • Further develop the MACN collective action approach and program and create a Collective Action Hub to manage and support additional in-country projects implemented with partners

  • With MACN project team, develop the practical resources, project management tools, methodologies, and systems required for implementing and supporting collective action projects in developing countries

  • Lead regional project managers in the implementation of a portfolio of MACN collective action projects in developing countries

  • Establish a long-term sustainable funding model for the MACN Collective Action Hub, ensuring ongoing monitoring and evaluation and follow-up activities in countries where collective action projects have been implemented

  • Conduct performance reviews against budget and expected outcomes and impacts and undertake effective analysis for review by senior management

  • Coordinate with the MACN Communications team to regularly review and suggest updates for website content on MACN as needed (homepage, events, articles, reports, etc.)

  • Identify global partners and build capacity of existing partners to execute MACN collective action projects effectively and efficiently

  • Support engagement and recruitment of global companies to participate in MACN collective action projects

  • Build a strong network of global research-institutions and anti-corruption focused NGOs to promote partnerships for implementation and/or scale of MACN collective action projects

  • Oversee reporting to MACN collective action stakeholders, including participating members, funding partners, and participating public bodies

EXPERIENCE

NOTE:  Only candidates with these specific requirements will be considered:

  • Minimum 5 years of program management and international development experience

  • Master’s degree in international development, legal/compliance, or other relevant area

  • Experience in one of the following areas is a must:

  • Working with the public sector in developing countries

  • Working with the transport and logistics sector

  • Working with management systems and/or legal compliance

  • Experience working and/or living abroad in low-or middle-income country/countries

  • Fluency in English required. Fluency in another relevant language preferred.

  • Strong project management skills, including ability to develop and communicate clear goals and objectives, as well as program monitoring and evaluation experience

  • Anti-corruption and bribery or legal compliance expertise is a significant plus
