Position Overview

Associates are responsible for conducting research and analysis, writing, logistics planning and other support on BSR products and services for the benefit of BSR members, funders or other clients. This will include participating in business advisory consulting and training work as required.

The position is created in anticipation of BSR confirming a major 3-year grant to support a Program that focuses on catalyzing private sector action for women’s empowerment in global supply chains. The Program is expected to contribute to gender equality and women’s empowerment for up to 40 million women working in light manufacturing and agriculture in multiple developing countries. The position is focused on supporting a series of private sector projects within the Program that aim to empower low-income women workers in the flower, tea and toy manufacturing industries in India and Kenya. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other colleagues on the BSR women’s empowerment team including colleagues who support BSR’s existing HERproject, a global public-private partnership to empower low-income women workers along global supply chains. The candidate may also be involved in other BSR projects.

Responsibilities

  • Program Support: The Associate will be responsible for supporting implementation of program activities in Kenya and India, and working with our corporate, NGO and research partners in the region. The Associate should be ready to travel frequently on weeklong or longer trips to the region, often on his/her own, and should expect travel up to 30% of total work time.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Supporting monitoring and evaluation practices associated with the Program.

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy: The Associate will support in conducting research, local outreach in Kenya and India, and in managing existing and new stakeholder and partner relationships. In addition, the associate will support engagement with multinational companies and global supply chain sustainability initiatives.

  • Communications and Events: The Associate will support planning and execution of local events as relevant. Further, the Associate will contribute to realising other projects in the Program.

  • Other responsibilities: The Associate may also be expected at times to contribute to other areas of work based on availability and BSR need.

Qualifications

NOTE: Only candidates with these specific requirements will be considered:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Masters’ Degree preferred.

  • EU Work authorization is required.

  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience, preferably in the area of international development and/or responsible business. Experience working in a public/private partnership environment desirable.

  • Knowledge of, or experience in, supply chain issues, women’s empowerment and gender equality

  • Exceptional research and writing skills in English, and ability to do some preliminary analysis on CSR research.

  • Practical field experience working and/or living abroad in a middle- or low-income country(s).

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to meet stringent deadlines, communicate progress on projects or event planning, and work with managers/directors to coordinate multiple projects concurrently.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with both internal and external clients.

  • High degree of self-control and self-motivation towards excellent deliverables and strong interests on CSR issues and role of business in a just and sustainable world.

  • Capacity to work and thrive in a growing, fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization with a collaborative environment.
