Ethical Corp’s Best Internal Sustainability Initiatives

Ethical Corporation’s list of great initiatives for engaging employees in sustainable business.

Between July and November 2007 we asked visitors to the event website for Ethical Corporation’s "How to get your workforce 100% committed to sustainability...." website to nominate companies doing interesting and innovative things when it comes to getting employees enthusiastic about sustainability.

In all we got over 50 responses. Below is an overview of the 3 initiatives receiving most nominations, and below that, a list of all of the organisations nominated.

IBM

IBM have organized a series of innovative ‘Jams’ which get employees, as well as customers/clients and other associates to submit their ideas on specific issues relating to corporate responsibility and sustainability online during the course of 1 day.

BSkyB - 2 different projects

Leadership development programme, two day community engagement initiative, partnering with the charity YourStory. The project brought together Sky's leadership development objectives with its community investment agenda.

Sky's Broadcast Operations department of 750 people have committed to a one-year community project they've named "Project Green Sky". Aim to support 8 Hounslow secondary schools to achieve sustainable school status over the next year. This project offers Sky employees the opportunity to get involved in a long term sustainable department-wide project but gives them choice and flexibility in terms of how and when they can engage.

Bovis Lend Lease

Conduct individual audits to establish the individual carbon footprints of particular employees
