Either they have known about the extent of the risks from climate change and not done enough to change government policy, or their “cold war” radar has failed to pick up the damage that climate change seems likely to wreak.

Since at least 1988, climate scientists have been warning that the impacts of climate change could be as devastating as nuclear war. Sea level rise and desertification are but two examples of the ways that climate change could rob a nation of land and disrupt democratic government just as surely as an invader.
