Mallen -
As usual, you have taken the bull by the horns. The dilemma is to recognize the company that performs better within its industry even if the industry is considered to be a problem.
Newsweek has attempted to deal with the problem by including a separate list of top-ranked companies within each industry.
Here are the top-ranked companies in industries that are not represented among the top-ranked firms. I have included also the states in whicht hey are located:
Banks & Insurance: Wells Fargo & Company, California
Basic Material: Praxair, Inc., Connecticut
Food & Beverage: Coca-Cola, Georgia
General Industrials, Construction & Materials: ITT Corporation, New York
Health Care Equipment & Services: Baxter International Inc., Illinois
Industrial Goods & Services: Agilent Technologies, Inc., California
Industrial Transp., Aerospace, Defense: United Technologies Corp., Connecticut
Oil & Gas: Marathon Oil Corporation, Texas
Retail: Kohl’s Corporation, Wisconsin
Utilities: PG&E Corporation, California
