In July I wrote a column for the magazine expressing some concerns from Chinese academics and NGOs that the unprecedented outpouring of charitable giving from ordinary Chinese people in the wake of the Wenchuan earthquake (known as 5/12 in China).

Basically people were worried that money had been misappropriated, stolen or misused and that NGOs and other charities were once again being reigned in by the state.

People were apparently disillusioned and that might well increase according to the lead article in a recent edition of the Yangcheng Evening News.
