Questions? Yes Answers? Maybe - Stuart Holdam, 12 Jun 2009
I am in complete agreement that the questions are finally being asked (thankfully). As for the answers, leaders need to gather from each stakeholder group and realize the urgency and unforseen value in adopting the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Guidance Standard.
We seem to get caught up, especially the upper echelons of corporations, in the costs of being socially responsible (example: some companies ignore recycling due to fees) as opportunities are lost.
As Matthew J. Kiernan states in 'Investing in a Sustainable World', "companies with superior performance and positioning on "sustainability" issues achieved, on average, superior financial returns."
Also necessary is a realization of the Standard in demanding social needs are addressed in a transparent manner before consumer and citizen groups.
