Air India has won a case in an Indian court to allow it to ground cabin crew staff that it deems to be too fat.

The move follows the company’s warning to 1,600 cabin staff two years ago that they should get fit or face ground duties only. When the company followed through, some of the affected staff sued.

India has laws that will punish discrimination against people on the grounds of caste, gender or religion. In common with many other countries, it does not have laws to specifically deal with discrimination on the grounds of weight.
