Sorry, says Yahoo

As reported this month in Asia-Pacific news, in mid-November internet giant Yahoo announced that it had reached an out-of-court settlement with the families of two Chinese journalists convicted of “divulging state secrets” after Yahoo disclosed their details to the Chinese authorities. Wang Xiao Ning and Shi Tao had shared material advocating democratic reform on Yahoo sites.

Their families had filed a case against the company in the federal courts in California. The company has now agreed to settle the litigation by paying the families’ legal costs and to create a fund to “provide support to other political dissidents and their families”.
