Philip Nichols is a self-confessed corruption junkie. As associate professor of legal studies and business ethics at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Nichols lives and breathes graft and bribery.

After years of academic and field studies, Nichols believes collective private sector action to fight corruption is “the most important and effective” of the many tools out there that can be used to combat the problem.

Stories about corrupt Chinese officials – and what happens to them – are rarely out of the news these days. And in Europe, big companies including BAE Systems, Total, Siemens and Volkswagen have all seen their names dragged through the media and regulatory mud in recent times.
