Corporate governance in Switzerland can be divided into two phases: before and after the grounding of Swissair. That was the watershed event, our Swiss Enron wake-up call.

Numerous guidelines have since been published by the Swiss stock market, the Federal Banking Commission and by the economic associations. Swiss shareholders, both direct (small individual investors) and indirect (institutional and pension funds) are now speaking up at annual general meetings, and instigating awkward law suits at a much higher rate.
