The group is sponsoring outdoor advertisements, which began appearing in Chicago, New York and Washington last week, as a response to what it says is “backtracking” by JP Morgan Chase on its commitment to provide a policy by early October.

The group says JP Morgan Chase’s chief executive, William Harrison, in an April letter to RAN’s executive director, committed to “build a broad policy framework” by the beginning of October, including targets and timelines on initiatives. But a second letter, dated 30 September from David Coulter, vice-chairman of the company, postponed the policy until April 2005 at the earliest, RAN says.

The new ads call on JP Morgan Chase to stop making what the group calls “investments of mass destruction” (IMD). The ads feature a large version of the Chase logo surrounding examples of the environmental devastation RAN says results from the bank’s “destructive” investments.
