The partnership between the World Wildlife Fund and APP began to unravel earlier this year when WWF accused the company of reneging on their joint agreement on environmental management.

WWF has sent a letter to the company’s major buyers in Asia, the US and Europe, suggesting they “immediately review their relationships” with APP, on the basis that the buyers may be subject to stakeholder backlash because of their relationship with APP. The company’s buyers include Japan-based Ricoh and US company Staples.

According to a report on WWF Indonesia’s website, Ricoh has already said it will withdraw from its relationship with APP. Another buyer, Office Depot, suspended its relationship with APP earlier this year pending an environmental review of the company.
