Patrick Neyts, head of the environmental health and safety and code of conduct department at Levi Strauss, called at a recent labour and human rights conference for a dramatic change in the way companies approach their suppliers working conditions if “real improvements” are to take root.

Mr Neyts says that companies must look to drive "sustainable change" through their supply chains, and decries as outdated and redundant the now-traditional methods of pushing for “tick box compliance” through constant supplier audits.

Neyts speaks with some experience. He has spent over 12 years working knee-deep in these messy corporate supply chain issues that remain retailers biggest challenge.
