The Rezidor Hotel Group has appointed Belgian round-the-world yachtswoman Inge Huijbrechts as its new director for responsible business. Based in the company's head office in Brussels, Huijbrechts brings 15 years of corporate responsibility experience to Rezidor’s responsible business programme.Huijbrechts’ most recent position was head of CSR at Toyota Motor Europe. Between 2003 and 2006 she sailed around the world in her own yacht and gained experience in planning, logistics, organisation, contact with and integration in local communities. 

Phil Berry, former Nike sustainability director, has been appointed as a vice-president in the sustainability strategy practice of WSP’s North American operation. For the past three years, Berry has run his own consultancy, Sustainable Product Works, advising a number of leading global companies on product and supply chain sustainability issues. At WSP, a design engineering and management consultancy, Berry will be involved in developing the company’s global sustainability strategy.

Halcyon Grouphas appointed Howard Shaw as senior vice-president of corporate social responsibility. Shaw, who was formerly executive director of the Singapore Environment Council, is a well-known champion of environmental sustainability in Singapore, and a firm advocate of the green movement. 
 

APPOINTMENT OF THE MONTH
 

The European Delegates’ Assembly has named Prof Peter Droege, winner of the European Solar Prize, as president of Eurosolar. Droege is a widely acknowledged expert in renewable and sustainable urban design, development and infrastructure. He is currently professor and chair of sustainable spatial development at the University of Liechtenstein. Droege says: “Eurosolar is the most important independently operating association for renewable energy in Europe. No further obstacles shall impede our move to a fully renewable world.” 
 

EBI Consultinghas appointed John Hovsepian as vice-president of environmental health and safety services. Hovsepian joined EBI in 1996 and was most recently a senior programme director managing the environmental health and safety group. In his new role, Hovsepian will direct all of EBI’s environmental health and safety service operations. 

International engineering consultancy Parsons Brinckerhoff has appointed Tom Matthewson as a technical director in the company’s environmental business. Matthewson will take responsibility for teams in the London and Godalming offices and will also help support Parsons Brinckerhoff’s growth in the offshore and marine markets. Matthewson was previously head of strategic environmental consulting at Black & Veatch. 

Dr Anne Smithand Dr W David Montgomery have joined Nera Economic Consulting’s energy, environment and network industries practice. Smith and Montgomery are internationally recognised experts on environmental and energy economics and have joined Nera as senior vice-presidents. Prior to joining Nera, both were with Charles River Associates; Smith was formerly practice leader of climate and sustainability and Montgomery was co-head of the energy and environment practice. 

Jane Briginshawhas joined the Homes and Communities Agency as its new head of design and sustainability.Briginshaw formerly worked as design director for Partnerships for Schools. In her new role she is responsible for the HCA’s design and sustainability agenda and will be rolling out a set of best practice, harmonised standards.

The Sustainability Consortium has appointed Bonnie Nixon, formerly Hewlett Packard’s director of environmental sustainability, as its new executive director. Nixon’s responsibilities will include developing and implementing short- and long-term strategies and growing the organisation to include international representation.

Henry Boot Constructionhas created a renewables division that will focus on new markets in the micro-generation renewable energy sector – initially working with ground and air source heat pumps, wind power and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Gary Toomey, former managing director of Regenesys UK, has been appointed as the new regional manager, while Nick Badcock, formerly solar PV manager at Regenesys UK, joins the company as technical manager.

Sustainalytics, a global provider of environmental, social and governance research and analysis, hasannounced its expansion into France with the hiring of Antonio Celeste as its director of institutional relations, Paris. Celeste will support Sustainalytics’ existing clients in France and will provide responsible investors there with access to global ESG research and analysis. Before joining Sustainalytics, Celeste was responsible for global partnerships and client servicing at Vigeo,a French CR ratingsagency.

Adnan Zahir Aminhas been elected as the director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency. Amin has been the interim director-general of IRENA since November 2010. He has more than 20 years of experience in the field of international environment and sustainable development policy, as well as in the political, management and interagency coordination functions of the United Nations.

Solar Trust of Americahas hired Edward Sullivan as vice-president of corporate communications and external affairs.  Before joining Solar Trust, Sullivan founded ELS Consulting LLC, a marketing and communications consultancy focused on companies engaged in the solar energy industry.
